Autumn Field Meet - Weekend 22nd - 23rd September 2018
North Wales : Snowdonia - Slate & Copper

As to the programme of events, this was as follows :
- Saturday 22nd
September - National Slate Museum and Vivian Slate
Quarry, Llanberis
Met at 10.00am for 10.30am at the far end of the car park of the
Padarn Country Park, Llanberis, below the restored Vivian incline,
at NGR : SH 585 605, (View 1:25,000 OS
Map or Road Atlas).
Note that there is a charge for parking here.
We walked the Vivian quarry trail to see the restored
inclines, the quarry hospital, Anglesey barracks etc. Following this
there was the opportunity to see the National Slate Museum (no charge).
Toilets and cafe available on the site.
- Saturday Evening
There was no pre-arranged evening meal.
- Sunday 23rd September -
Lliwedd Copper Mine (View 1:25,000 OS
Map)
Met at 9.30am for 10.00am departure, at the car park at Pont Bethania,
NGR : SH 628 507 (View 1:50,000 OS Map or Road Atlas) There is a charge here. Early birds are able to park
for free at the layby beyond the cafe towards Beddgelert. Toilets at the car park, cafe nearby.
Plans to examine the Lliwedd copper mine and other mining remains in
Cwm Llan and Cwm Merch, were changed such that just those in Cwm
Llan were visited, including those of the South Snowdon Slate Works.
